Hard-working, competitive and determined are the best adjectives that describe Durham Rebels Fury 17U girls. Not only is this team committed to playing the best volleyball they can, but are coached by two outstanding coaches, Mike Hayes and Ashley Hart.

Fury came into the 2021/22 season ranked 11th in Ontario and were determined to better that ranking by the end of the season. Provincials came and the team played some of the best volleyball anyone has seen, beating teams that were ranked well above them every day of the competition. After a hard-fought battle in the semi-finals followed by the bronze medal game, the girls came out with a third-place finish at the 17U Provincial Championships. Kathryn Beresford was named one of the six All-Stars at the provincial finale. After provincials, came nationals. This was the first time many of the girls travelled to compete in the Canadian National Championships. The games were tough right from the start and even though the girls did not do as well as they hoped, they still had an amazing time and will never forget the experience. At the end of the season, 17U Fury is now ranked 3rd in the province.

Athlete Updates:

• Victoria Herrington tried out for the Canada Summer Games and has made the roster; Victoria will be training this summer to play in the Canada Summer Games in Niagara.

• Kathryn Beresford, Lexi Nicholson-Clarke, Madison Shular, Sophie Somerfeldt, Ava Vos and Brooke Woolley all made Team Ontario Black and train at Nippising University in North Bay this July.

• Brooke Woolley has been selected to the Team Ontario Beach roster and will train this summer lead coach, Angie Shen, before taking her skills to compete at provincial and national championships.

• Ava Hayes, Lexi Nicholson-Clarke, and Madison Shular have also been selected to the BTG team that will train in British Columbia and then travel to Tulsa, USA to compete in the USA Volleyball Championships.

The hard work has paid off and these girls definitely have very bright futures in the volleyball world. Next season, Fury plans to come back even stronger with the goal of winning Provincials. Go Fury Go!
